In a working-class neighborhood of Ouagadougou lives a widowed grandmother who harbors a painful secret: she was once forced to marry a man she did not love. Forty-five years later, her heart still beats for her first great love. Her granddaughter Natie, a teenager struggling with her identity, discovers her grandmother’s passion and does everything she can to bring the two lovers together – while also finding her own path.
LES INVERTUEUSES is much more than just a love story. The film tells the story of the emancipation of two women in a Burkina Faso marked by insecurity, drastic security measures, and internally displaced people streaming into the cities. The story unfolds against the backdrop of the country’s fight against terrorism, driven by a desire for freedom and self-determination.
