AFRIKAMERA & HEINRICH BÖLL FOUNDATION present: AFRICAN QUEERS, AFRICAN MOVIES, AFRICAN POLITICS
Thursday 3. November 18.30
In some Africain countries Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-, intersex- and queer people (LGBTIQ*) fall under increasing pressure: Discriminating laws, social exclusion and violence complicate their lives. Even in South Africa, whose progressive constitution protects LGBTIQ* people from discrimination, violence against black lesbians in the townships goes on. More and more LGBTIQ* activist endeavor to a visibility and demanding their rights. Among them are many artists, musicians and filmmakers.
Recently, a variety of African movies and documentaries has arisen that deal with queer lifestyles in Africa.
Within this framework, the Heinrich Böll Foundation presents three films, that illuminate the different life situations and political conditions of LGBTIQ* people in Africa and invites to a discussion.
